Sunday - We spent time doing devotions, had breakfast and then got ready for church. At some point during the morning the power went out. I remembered the words of Phil Holliday which he spoke to me this past week before I left, "Beware, sometimes the power goes out." I started drinking a lot of water to get ready to speak loudly so that all would hear me preaching without a sound system. We went to church which carried on without a problem. A little more cooperation was required by the people to be quiet each time the worship leader spoke, but I was impressed by the positive attitudes of the leadership and the people. During one of the final worship songs the power was restored so I was able to preach with the help of Pastor Earl's translation skills and the booming sound system.
We enjoyed our sabbath with some free time, lunch and then a bus ride with the orphans to the river. We swam, jumped off the cliff and played with the orphans for a couple of hours before returning to the Verbo Orphanage to prepare for supper. We were fed well as usual and then had our porch time, which was led by Todd Waggoner. He did a tremendous job leading our group through a discussion about 1 Corinthians 12 (the body of Christ) and Matthew 25 (the parable of the talents). The group is having an amazing time and I have not heard one teenager complain or fuss about serving in any capacity. This has been a wonderful trip thus far. Thanks for your prayers!
Thank you so much for posting Will. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers constantly - they're so lucky to have you there. I wondered if you would work on the Sabbath - glad you had a day of rest. We missed everyone at CFC. The teens told what they had done with the $50 and Anna (I believe is her name) said she got a tatoo with hers! It was really funny. Then she said - "Just kidding :) I gave half to my friend who's going on the Nicaragua trip and the other 1/2 to a friend going on a mission trip to Russia." Anyway they did some amazing things with the money. And you probably know Pastor Alman was there - very cool. Well be safe and please give my love to Jim. Buenas Dias!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response Sharon. I will pass along your message to Jim. He has been such a blessing here - fixing vehicles and on the construction team. He is such a great guy and we are thrilled to have him on the trip!
ReplyDeleteThanks also for sharing about the kids part in the Sunday service. I laughed out loud about the tattoo. I believe you regarding what the kids did with the money and see so much potential in the teenagers that are on this trip. I believe we will see God do amazing things in and through this group in the months and years to come. I feel privileged to be able to work with them.
